Mercedes-Benz presents E Class six-door limousine Posted: 28 Apr 2010 02:16 AM PDT Thanks to the recent Beijing Motor Show, we’ve been inundated with news about long wheelbase models or facelifted limousines. Now, Mercedes-Benz, together with German coachbuilder Binz, have just revealed the perfect thing for those with a craving for longer models: the E Class six-door limousine. The new German limousine now measures 19.61 feet (5.9 meters) and can accommodate seven people that can get in through all six doors. Inside, they will find all of the regular luxuries a Mercedes-Benz E Class can offer plus, courtesy of Binz, other options like armor plating, for those a bit more paranoid. Three engine choices will be available for the Mercedes-Benz E Class Binz limousine, the gasoline E350 CGI BlueEfficiency, the E500 or the diesel E250 BlueEfficiency. Video: Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid laps the Nurburgring Posted: 28 Apr 2010 01:55 AM PDT Porsche surprised a lot of people when it showcased the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car. It then followed up with the announcement that the track car will be racing in the upcoming 24 Hours of Nurburgring endurance event. For those who believed the hybrid race car won’t be able to survive the ‘Green Hell’ that is the Nurbugring Nordschleife, the Stuttgart carmaker released a new video, with Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg at the helm of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. The Williams F1 driver will also be the one who will lead the Porsche team at the endurance competition, alongside other drivers, between May 13 and 16. 20-year old son gets father’s Bugatti Veyron impounded Posted: 28 Apr 2010 01:28 AM PDT As yet another reminder to keep fast cars out of the hands of young people, a 20-year old managed to get his father’s Bugatti Veyron hypercar impounded by the Dutch police, near Rotterdam. Why did the cops seize the $2.4 million luxury sportscar? Because the young guy was speeding, reaching 100 mph in a zone limited to just 50 mph. Because of the severity of Dutch law, the driver had to surrender both his license and the Veyron to the authorities. The car belongs to Michel Perridon, director of Trust International BV. As of yet, it isn’t clear when or even if he will get the car back. If he won’t it’s suffice to say his son will have a lot of work to do in order to pay up its cost. While we can’t say we wouldn’t be tempted to step on the throttle of a Veyron, once again we need to remind everyone that this must be done in a closed track so that you, the spectators and the car won’t be in danger. BMW recalling 2010 X5 M over defective side marker lamps Posted: 28 Apr 2010 12:58 AM PDT After yesterday’s Porsche Panamera recall, another high end model will soon be called back to dealerships: the BMW X5 M performance SUV/SAV. The problem with the 2010 BMW X5 M stems from the side marker lamps, which are located in the outer corner of the headlight cluster. It seems that even though they were installed, power cables leading to them and ensuring their functionality weren’t (d’oh!). As such, around 735 2010 BMW X5 M models will soon be recalled to dealerships so that a fix can be implemented. Up until now, BMW hasn’t found a remedy, but as soon as a solution appears, owners of the performance SUV will receive a letter of notification in order to come to the dealership for the free fix. The problem isn’t life threatening, as the headlights or the turn signals still work accordingly. The recall is done for compliance with federal law. BMW X5 M owners can contact BMW at 800-525-7417. Ford posts $2.1 billion profit in Q1 Posted: 28 Apr 2010 12:34 AM PDT Some say the global recession took a heavy toll on the automotive industry. Judging by ailing carmakers like Chrysler or GM, who were bailed out by the government last year, you might also be inclined to say so. But Ford trumped all expectations yesterday when it posted a huge profit, $2.1 billion, for the first quarter of 2010. It seems that the sales increase in both North America (by 39%), China (by 84%) and Europe, where it became sales leader, have manifested in a huge profit for the Blue Oval. Those with stocks in the company also had reasons to celebrate, as the largest price in over a year, $14.57 was recorded on Monday. Because things are looking good, Ford is planning to up the production, so that it can have more cars in dealerships and, hopefully, on the road during the second quarter. Still, champagne bottles won’t be popped so easily at the Dearborn headquarters of the Blue Oval, as the company pointed out that the rest of 2010 might not be so great, and with a debt of $34.3 billion still owed, the carmaker needs to carefully plan its next moves. Either way, Ford fans are definitely going to milk this oportunity to poke some fun at GM or Chrysler. Source: Detroit Free Press Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Citroen and Peugeot to launch their own versions of Mitsubishi ASX/RVR/Outlander Sport Posted: 28 Apr 2010 12:18 AM PDT Even though the PSA Peugeot Citroen alliance didn’t manage to successfully purchase Mitsubishi, this doesn’t mean the relationship between the French and the Japanese won’t continue. As such, it seems that both Peugeot and Citroen will continue the tradition laid out by the 4007 and the C-Crosser or the iOn and the C-Zero, and release their own versions of Mitsubishi’s latest compact crossover. As you know, for some odd reason, the Japanese company decided to give it different names for each market. The ASX (Europe) RVR (Japan) and Outlander Sport (North America) will now see its multiple personality disorder increase with the Peugeot and Citroen versions. It is expected that the two French companies will throw in the 1.6-liter HDi engine, capable of low emissions and frugal fuel average, but will also offer the 2.0-liter diesel that Mitsubishi will sell itself for the crossover. The French versions are expected to appear in early 2012, so until then you can only get the Mitsubishi version. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Formula 1 teams might adopt turbocharged engines in 2013 Posted: 27 Apr 2010 11:34 PM PDT Formula 1 might see a drastic change in the next couple of years if we are to believe a few wild rumors speculating that the current engine formula might be changed, from the current 2.4-liter V8 units to smaller, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder ones. We’ve already reported on the subject some time ago, but new information has just surfaced. It seems that the current F1 teams may already have decided on the new type of engines and will employ them as early as the 2013 season. The twin-turbo 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines might also see the addition of KERS technology in order to further boost the green credentials of the popular motorsport competition. Heads of carmakers like Ferrari or Mercedes-Benz are already pushing this idea, so we might get to see some big changes in the future. Do you think the addition of these new engines will increase the popularity of Formula 1 or will it just go by unnoticed by the mainstream media? Video: Volkswagen Scirocco gets turned into a racing game controller Posted: 27 Apr 2010 11:20 PM PDT There are a multitude of ways to play racing video games. You can use a keyboard, you can use a console controller or, if you’re really bent on simulating the experience, you can use a steering wheel and pedal assembly. The guys at Karjack CarLab thought those options were still cutting it short, and decided to modify a 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco, so that you can use the car as a video game controller. How did they do that? By connecting the ODB port to a computer. They then added a projector on top of the car, a screen to see the image on and a few speakers to actually hear the video. The end result is something we wouldn’t mind using to play the next Need For Speed game or the future Gran Turismo 5 (if it will come out before we’re old). Curios to see the Scirocco being used to play video games? Then hit the jump and check it out. Source: Hack a Day via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
