Motorsport Weekend: Nascar Aaron’s 499 and 312 Talladega races results Posted: 26 Apr 2010 04:36 AM PDT Welcome to a new edition of Motorsport Weekend, our special feature in which we talk about the biggest races that took place in the last three days. After a plethora of events on the last edition, this time we’re only talking about the Nascar races, more specifically Aaron’s 499 and 312 events, both taking place at the famous Talladega Superspeedway. This time there was no rain in sight and the races were properly exciting, with many lead changes and some dramatic crashes. Curious to see how Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick or Jimmie Johnson faired? Then hit the jump and find out. Overall, Keselowski leads the Nationwide Series, followed by Harvick, who trails by 60 points and Kyle Busch, trailing by 104 points. Moving on to the main event, Aaron’s 499 race, counting for the Sprint Cup. The race was dominated by many leadership changes, with no more than 29 drivers exchanging first spot for 88 times during the event. Out of all those drivers, the guy who passed the finish line first was Kevin Harvick, who finally managed to win a race after a 115 winless streak. He was followed by Jamie McMurray and former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya. Overall standings in the Nascar Sprint Cup still see Jimmie Johnson lead, with Harvick trailing by 26 points and Greg Biffle by 86. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Video: Ferrari 599XX laps the Nurburgring in a record-breaking run Posted: 26 Apr 2010 02:29 AM PDT Carmakers always want to one-up the competition and prove that their product is superior. In terms of supercar manufacturers, this instinct is even more aggressive, and doesn’t limit itself to the amount of HP, torque or 0 to 62 mph times. For some time now, supercars have waged war on the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, where many manufacturers choose to test out their prototypes. Seeing as how the models were pushed to their limits, some started flaunting their times in the media, as a sort of ultimate divider between sportscars. Now, Ferrari has shut everyone up, as it has just posted a record-breaking time with its 599XX track car. The model, driven by test pilot Raffaele De Simone managed what many believed the impossible, lapping the 20.8 km (12.9 mile) circuit in just 6 minutes and 58 seconds. Don’t believe us? Then hit the jump and check out the video below, with the Ferrari’s record breaking Nurburgring run. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Audi RS5 set to arrive in the USA in late 2011 Posted: 26 Apr 2010 02:05 AM PDT When Audi presented the RS5 sportscar, many fans of the Ingolstadt manufacturer were left drooling. A lucky few then started checking bank accounts and making calls to dealerships in order to secure such a model. But while we would have preferred for Audi to spread the 444 HP joy all around the world, the RS5 will first hit Europe this summer, and it isn’t even clear what other territories will receive the powerful German coupe. In order to shed some light for US Audi fans, the guys at InsideLine say that the company will, in fact, bring the RS5 to North America. There are a few catches though, as the coupe is expected to hit around fall 2011 and we don’t even know what price or trim levels will arrive attached to it. IL speculates that because Audi isn’t confident of high sales for the RS5, it will bring only the full spec versions, with things like a sports differential, exhaust system and many other luxury features. The price for such a car? Around $75,000. No word on how many such models will be shipped across the Atlantic, but more details will certainly arrive until next year. Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa by Zagato revealed Posted: 26 Apr 2010 01:37 AM PDT Zagato teased us last week with an overhead shot of the TZ3 Corsa race car it prepared, based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione supercar. Now, the bespoke racer has finally been unveiled by the customizer at the Villa D’Este concours, and, as you can see, sports a very attractive design, bringing back a variation of the long forgotten breadvan body style. While its design may seem retro, its underpinnings are state of the art, with Zagato using aluminum bodywork on a carbon fiber chassis. Add in the V8 engine from the Alfa Romeo 8C and you have yourself one proper race car. The model was ordered by German collector Martin Kapp, in order to celebrate the 100 years worth of racing clocked by outfits like the Scuderia Ferrari, Alfa Corse, Autodelta and Scuderia Zagato. BMW Classic shows off the recreated 328 Kamm Coupé Posted: 26 Apr 2010 01:05 AM PDT As we revealed a few weeks ago, BMW planned a big surprise for the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, a fully recreated 328 Kamm Coupé model, just like the one that participated in the 1940 Mille Miglia endurance competition. Now, the German company, through its new Classic division, has just unveiled the recreated car. While some may not be impressed, take into consideration the fact that the swooping design was recreated using only vintage photos of the car.
In case you didn’t know, the planned recreation of the BMW 328 Kamm Coupe started back in the 1990s, but many hurdles placed it on the back burner. Now, for this year’s Villa d’Este show, the Bavarians pulled together their resources and this faithful recreation resulted, celebrating 70 years since the 328 won the Mille Miglia race. Check out the iconic recreation of the BMW 328 Kamm Coupe in the photo gallery below. Photo Gallery: BMW 328 Kamm Coupé Source: BMW Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2011 Hyundai Accent (Verna) debuts in Beijing Posted: 26 Apr 2010 12:26 AM PDT During last week’s Beijing Motor Show, Hyundai finally revealed the 2011 Accent compact sedan, or Verna, as it is known in Asia. As you can see above (if you take your eyes off the lovely ladies), the new Accent sports the same Fluidic design language as seen on the larger Sonata sedan. One can even go so far as to say the Accent is just a shrunken version of its bigger brother. Either way, this still leaves the compact sedan with a very attractive look, one that is certain to attract the customers that can’t spring for a full grown Sonata. For the Chinese market, two petrol engines are going to be available: a 106 HP 1.4-liter that can be coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic, or a more potent 121 HP 1.6-liter unit, available only with the automatic transmission. The 2011 Hyundai Accent is set to hit the Chinese market this summer, with the South Korean carmaker planning to launch the model all around the world somewhere between the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011. Ford recalls 33,000 2010 models over faulty seat recliners Posted: 25 Apr 2010 11:42 PM PDT We take many things for granted in a car. Among them are the seat recliners which, in case you didn’t know, can actually break down. This is what can happen in several Ford models, including the 2010 Fusion, Explorer and Explorer SportTrac, as well as 2010 Mercury Mountaineer and Milan vehicles. As such, the company, together with the NHTSA, announced that over 33,000 models will be recalled to dealerships were new seats are going to be added, so that no harm can come to their occupants. While such a defect might seem a bit trivial, in case of a crash, the back of the seat might completely recline to the rear, resulting in an improper protection for the front passengers. As usual, the repairs will be free of charge and the Blue Oval will begin contacting owners so that they can have their 2010 Ford or Mercury models fixed. If you don’t want to wait, you can contact the company at (866) 436-7332. Source: Associated Press Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Geely presents the new London Taxi: the Englon TXN Posted: 25 Apr 2010 11:16 PM PDT Geely finally revealed the model it hopes will continue the legacy of the black London taxis, the Englon TXN, at the Beijing Motor Show. For those of you who don’t remember, the Chinese carmaker is the owner of the London Taxis International company, which is responsible for making the famous black cabs we see prancing around the British capital. The models, while iconic as they may be, are in need of a replacement, at least according to the Chinese, who revealed the Englon TXN. Basically an updated take on the usual black taxis, the TXN can also be ordered as a TX4 version, with increase space in the back. No matter the version, a choice of either a 2.4-liter gasoline engine coupled to a five-speed automatic or 2.5-liter diesel engine, coupled with a five-speed manual, can be ordered. Companies willing to order these new models for their fleets should dig deep into their pockets, as given current exchange rates, a TXN will go for $30,500. MG presents Zero concept in Beijing Posted: 25 Apr 2010 10:55 PM PDT British brand MG, now part of the Chinese consortium SAIC, revealed at last week’s Beijing Motor Show a brand new concept. As you can see above, it isn’t one of the famous roadsters that made the company so well known, but a small compact hatchback model, a bit too similar with the new Ford Fiesta, if you ask us. Either way, the MG Zero concept hatchback previews a future entry from the brand onto this tough segment. The design was penned in the UK by Anthony Williams, and aims at capturing the interest of a worldwide audience, not just in Europe or Asia. On the inside we can find quite a lot of futuristic technologies, including the floating center console complete with a plethora of touch screen controls. No other details about engines or when we shall see the MG Zero concept roll off the assembly line were given, so don’t hold your breath anytime soon.
