Posted: 13 Apr 2010 04:17 AM PDT Audi is expected to showcase the next generation of its mid-size sedan, the A6, early next year. The 2012 A6 will begin a new age for the Ingolstadt manufacturer, as it will pioneer new technologies. Even though there are still quite a few months separating us from the official reveal, the guys at MotorAuthority have revealed some new details about the next generation of the German model. First and foremost, the 2012 A6 will be among the first Audi models to use ASF II, standing for Aluminum and Steel Spaceframe technology. These new materials allow the creation of modular cars that weight less and are more resistant. Most importantly, they allow for a modular car to be designed, making it easier to swap out parts and subassemblies. Besides the new technology, Audi is going to offer new engines, including gasoline units ranging from a 2.4-liter V6 to a 4.2-liter V8. In terms of diesel engines, two V6 units, a 2.7-liter and a 3.0-liter, are going to be among the available choices. Performance fans will probably get a smaller TFSI (turbocharged) engine instead of the current V10 in the S6 sports variant. The 2012 Audi A6 is going to feature standard front-wheel drive, but quattro AWD is going to be optional for a lot of these variants. No word yet on what gearboxes will be connected to the aforementioned engines, as Audi currently uses a wide range of transmissions. Source: MotorAuthority Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Video: Audi promotes the A1 with Justin Timberlake in new short film series Posted: 13 Apr 2010 01:47 AM PDT Many months ago, when Audi announced that it is partnering up with popstar Justin Timberlake to promote the A1 city car, we figured he’ll take some publicity snapshots or just say a few words at the Geneva premiere of the car. But Audi isn’t letting him off the hook that easily, and has just revealed a trailer for a new “next big thing” short film series, where Timberlake will co-star alongside the beautiful Dania Ramirez (pictured above). In it, they will use the A1 to escape bad guys, gun chases and anything else a B movie plot can throw at them. Also, it seems there’s a Fight Club-inspired scene there. Hit the jump to see the trailer for this new series that will premiere next month. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2011 Volkswagen Phaeton facelift to debut in Beijing Posted: 13 Apr 2010 01:23 AM PDT The Beijing Motor Show will be host to quite a few high end facelifts this year. Besides the rumored Maybach refresh, Volkswagen has also chosen this event to showcase the 2011 Phaeton facelift done to its flagship limousine. As you may remember, Volkswagen wanted a piece of the high end sedan market eight years ago, and the Phaeton was its main weapon. The big limousine didn’t get off to a strong start, and is now just famous for its horrible resale value, with its price plummeting once you take it out of the dealership. Nevertheless, VW is committed to the Phaeton, and will implement a facelift in Beijing, most probably adding a “new” front fascia, like we already saw on the Golf VI or the recent 2011 Touareg. LED lights in the front and possibly in the back might also make an appearance. Under the bonnet, VW is rumored to add the two versions of the 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine which were revealed for the 2011 Audi Q7 last week. Both engines are going to replace the older 3.6-liter V6 and the 4.2-liter V8. Is the Phaeton worth improving or should VW just leave it to die? Share your thoughts below. Video: Biker tries to do a burnout, fails completely Posted: 13 Apr 2010 12:56 AM PDT What is it with people and burnouts? We’ve seen guys fail completely in various cars like a Chevrolet Corvette or a BMW 3 Series. Even those who know what they’re doing ended up getting caught by the police. Now, it seems that motorcycle riders aren’t immune to becoming show offs, as a new video reveals a rider trying to do a few burnouts and donuts in a parking lot with a couple of his friends. It’s all pretty fine and dandy until the guy decides to kick it up a notch and get off the bike. Too bad he didn’t count on the machine having a mind of its own. Hit the jump to see how this bike rider completely failed while doing a burnout. Source: GawkerTV Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Vauxhall presents new Astra police car in the UK Posted: 13 Apr 2010 12:38 AM PDT While we cover most of the times some really awkward or unique police cars, it’s worth announcing from time to time the new cars that you will be seeing on the street and, hopefully, not in your rear view mirror anytime soon. Seeing as how the Vauxhall Astra is the most popular police car in the UK, the company’s Special Vehicle Operations unit decided to overhaul the most recent generation of the Astra in order to serve police departments all over the country.
The result is the new Astra police car, pictured above. Among the modifications implemented in the new vehicle are things like a restyled center console with room for police radio, video capture systems plus a remote data terminal, complete with a big touchscreen system. While not as fancy as the Audi Q7 the Scottish police is rolling in, the Astra will certainly get the job done. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Mini Cooper S gets customized by TopCar and Russian designer Denis Simachev Posted: 13 Apr 2010 12:26 AM PDT Seeing as how many people who want to stand out from the rest of the pack opt for Mini models, Russian tuning company TopCar teamed up with one of the biggest upcoming designers and artists from its country, Denis Simachev, to create two unique limited edition Mini Cooper S series. In order to make it stand out more, the tuners created a new body kit, called “Bully”, designed to inspire a more aggressive appearance. Comprised of an aluminum sports grille, daytime running lights, a rear diffuser plus a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, the body kit completes handling upgrades like a new exhaust system or a set of Brembo brakes. As we revealed above, there will be two limited editions, of 25 models, based on the tuned Mini Cooper S. The first is the Mini Cooper Bully by Simachev, which you can check out above. It uses an special paint scheme, with glossy black and pearl white, while throwing carbon fiber trim on the inside like nobody’s business. The second limited edition is the Mini Cooper Bully Moscow, which also saw a unique design made by Simachev be imprinted on the side. Thanks to a special paint, the imprint will change colors depending on how the light hits the compact city car, ranging from blue to green or black. In case you’re interested to spend your rubles, the Cooper Bully is set to premiere at Top Marques Monaco on April 15, while the Bully Moscow is set to be unveiled on April 17 at Simachev’s Shop and Bar in Moscow. Chevrolet Cruze gets Irmscher-tuned special edition in Europe Posted: 12 Apr 2010 11:59 PM PDT Seeing as how the Chevrolet Cruze has already received a special RS appearance package for its US-spec edition, debuting this summer, Europeans also voiced their desire for a slightly sportier Cruze. Their wish came true at the recent AMI Leipzig Motor Show, where Chevrolet teamed up with traditional Opel/Vauxhall tuner Irmscher to create a new tuning package for the Cruze sedan. Included in the kit are things like a rear spoiler, new 18-inch alloy wheels, a lowered suspension by 25 mm and, most importantly, a 36 HP boost in power for the 2.0-liter diesel engine, which now outputs 186 HP and sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 8.0 seconds. The tuning kit can be ordered, at least in Germany, straight from Chevrolet dealers, while the rest of Europe will probably have to order it from Irmscher. Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV gets customized by pro skier Jon Olsson Posted: 12 Apr 2010 11:48 PM PDT Who said Lamborghini models can’t be outfitted for more practical uses? Not pro skier Jon Olsson, who showcased his newest acquisition, a beautiful Murcielago LP670-4 Super Veloce, outfitted with a rather interesting accessory: a ski box. The Swedish skier recently swapped an older LP640 for this new car, and besides the ski box, he also customized it with a matte black paint job plus a few electro Orange accents on key body parts, like the front fender (or snow plow in these conditions) and the side skirts. While we can’t really say we adore the fact that he even branded the model with his initials, we’ve seen worse, so at least his efforts of turning the all-wheel drive Murcielago into a proper snow machine are commendable. What do you think about this novel tuning concept? Source: Jon Olsson via GT Spirit Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Switzer Performance tunes Nissan GT-R to 800 HP and 700 lb-ft of torque Posted: 12 Apr 2010 11:29 PM PDT The Nissan GT-R is probably one of the most impressive sportscars on the market, developing 480 HP and 430 lb-ft of torque from its 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. But what do you do when this power output isn’t enough? One guy took his GT-R to the team at Switzer Performance, with just one goal in mind: to increase the power to weight ratio. Always willing to help, the engineers at Switzer went to work, stripping out all the unnecessary weight, while implementing a plethora of upgrades, like new intercoolers, tweaked turbochargers or a new exhaust system. The end result? The Nissan GT-R P800, developing a whopping 800 HP and 700 lb-ft, all while weight 200 pounds less than the average GT-R. Needless to say, we think the Godzilla moniker is more than justified for this model. Source: Global Performance via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
