BMW finally reveals the 1 Series M Coupe (video included)

At the end of last year, word got out that BMW would be developing a performance version based on the 1 Series Coupe model, set to wear the M badge.

As soon as the news hit, its name was rumored to range from the M1, 1M, 135is or anything in between.

Now, BMW has finally decided to pull the curtain off the newest member of its M family, the 1 Series M Coupe.

According to the M Division boss, Dr. Kay Segler, the M1 badge is very special to BMW, so it decided to use another name for what essentially will be the M3’s smaller brother.

No other official details were given by BMW, but there are still plenty of rumors going around the web. First off, the new 1 Series M Coupe might be powered by an upgraded version of the twin-turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine, currently featured by the 135i. It will be able to develop anywhere from 335 HP to 350 HP.

As you can see above, special accessories were also added, in order to make the new baby M car that much more aggressive. Enlarged wheels, a revised body kit plus a larger diffuser are all part of the new car.

According to BMW, the 1 Series M Coupe will be formally revealed before the end of the year, while deliveries will begin around the first half of 2011. Those from Germany or Austria that want to get a sneak peak at the new car, can go to the M-Power.com website, where they can register for the chance to win an exclusive test drive.

Those of us who aren’t from those two countries can hit the jump and see a video of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe in action, alongside commentary from Dr. Kay Segler. Enjoy!
