Rich guy got so drunk he lost a Lamborghini

Rich guy got so drunk he lost a Lamborghini

For those who really love Lamborghini, this story won’t go down very well. It seems that a property tycoon from the UK, Glenn Knowles, went on a night of binge drinking with a Lamborghini he co-owned with a friend of his.

After his bar hopping experience, he revealed to the police that he actually lost his Lamborghini model, and couldn’t remember where he parked it. The police attempted to search for it, and even employed the tracking system the luxury sportscar was equipped with, but couldn’t find it.

Smelling something fishy, insurance investigators charged the two owners with attempting to commit fraud, but a jury found them innocent during the trial. It seems that because the guys were able to make monthly £500 payments for the vehicle, and because this wasn’t the first time Knowles forgot about a car, they were found not guilty. Before a similar night of drinking, Knowles parked a Mercedes-Benz so well, he needed to search for it for quite some time before it was found.

Frankly, we’re without words. We should definitely hope that Mr. Knowles will be kept away from any other supercars for quite some time, or at least employ a driver during his drinking escapades. So, as a quick reminder, if you’re going to be drinking a lot, best leave the Lambo in the garage, OK?

Porsche denies crossover model as it will hurt Cayenne sales

Porsche denies crossover model as it will hurt Cayenne sales

Since the new generation of the Porsche Cayenne SUV was launched a few weeks ago, many people believed that the logical step would be a smaller crossover model, to bridge the gap between the non-sportscar offers of the Stuttgart carmaker.

Now though, it seems that Porsche won’t follow that road, citing the impact the launch of the Audi Q5 crossover had on the sales of the Audi Q7 full-sized SUV. While the Cayenne makes up for almost half of the company’s profits, it seems that the idea of a smaller model won’t open up a new segment and will just fragment the owner base.

As you may remember, Porsche was speculated to have been planning a crossover, presumably named the Roxster, which would appear around 2012-2013. With these new reports though, it seems that the plans were scrapped.

Is Porsche onto something, or will it miss the crossover segment by not launching such a model? Don’t be shy and share your thoughts below.

Rolls Royce rumored to prep next generation Phantom for 2016 debut

Rolls Royce rumored to prep next generation Phantom for 2016 debut

In what is a pretty far fetched rumor, it seems that famous luxury British carmaker Rolls Royce will be launching the next generation Phantom model around 2016. Until then, you can hope that the interest in your bank deposit piles up so that you can afford one.

With Bentley already getting the new Mulsanne ready for its official launch, many people believed Rolls Royce will be hurrying its research for the new flagship Phantom. But it seems that the British carmaker is fine with keeping the Phantom, which was introduced way back in 2003, on the market for another few years.

Until then, people who want something newer can experience the smaller Ghost, which will see new body styles coming in the next few years. Also, a few more special Phantom editions, targeted at its main customers, are certain to appear.

Do you think that the Phantom’s timeless nature will keep it popular for a few more years to come or should the carmaker kick the next generation’s development into overdrive? Share your thoughts below.

Video: Porsche celebrates the history of its 911 GT3 RS model

Porsche is a carmaker with a very impressive history. From the first models designed by Ferdinand Porsche to the new ones which are tearing it up both on the off the track.

But one specific model in the current lineup is a bit more special than the others, the 911 GT3 RS. The RS badge (RennSport aka RaceSport) started life quite some time ago, and has now evolved and designates what Porsche believes to be the track car brought to the road.

In order to fully celebrate the big models which made the RS so popular, it has now released an episode of its Porsche Experience series, celebrating the new 911 GT3 RS, but also its forefathers, including the iconic ducktailed 1973 911 Carrera RS.

Brakes weren’t applied during New York Prius crash, NHTSA finds

Brakes weren't applied during New York Prius crash, NHTSA finds

Besides the runaway California Toyota Prius, the USA was also shocked by another Prius crash, which occurred in a suburban area of New York city. The incident involved a woman driver who attempted to get out of her driveway in a 2005 Prius hybrid.

The car, according to her report, accelerated on its own, and despite pressing the brake pedal, crashed into a nearby stone wall. The car was immediately impounded by the NYPD, and investigators from both Toyota and the National Highway Traffic Safety Association arrived to check out the Prius.

It seems that the findings were pretty interesting, as NHTSA representatives revealed that the brakes weren’t applied during the incident. After working with Toyota officials to decode the information from the Event Data Recorder, it seems that the brake pedal wasn’t used before the crash occurred.

This statement made Capt. Anthony Marraccini a bit angry, as the investigation wasn’t complete, and there are still data that needs to be analyzed. Either way, it seems that once again the Prius model was not to blame in the crash.

Performance Alfa Romeo Giulietta gets new details

Performance Alfa Romeo Giulietta gets new details

Alfa Romeo is betting big with the upcoming Giulietta hatchback. While the regular models will offer some stylish alternatives to the current Volkswagen Golf or Ford Focus, Alfa is also aiming high with the future performance version of the Giulietta.

While it isn’t known exactly what denomination it will bear, GTA or Cloverleaf (Quadrifoglio), the guys at Autocar have come forward with some new mechanical details about this future Golf GTI rival. It seems it will be powered by the 1750 TBi engine, which is turbocharged thanks to Fiat’s MultiAir technology. Speculations peg the output to around 235 HP, much higher than the GTI’s 208 HP and not too far from the Golf R’s 266 HP.

It seems that the car will maintain the front-wheel drive architecture, but include the new Q2 electronic differential. Other systems set to appear in this hot hatch Giulietta will be a new dual-clutch gearbox and active dampers.

Overall, this very hot Alfa Romeo hatch will have a lot of aces up its sleeve. Hopefully the Italian carmaker will be able to market it successfully and really give the Golf GTI a run for its money.

Video: Toyota explains its analysis of the runaway Prius incident

As you all know by now, it seems that the recent runaway Toyota Prius incident was actually a hoax, as both the National Highway Traffic Safety Association and Toyota have found in two separate investigations that James Sikes didn’t follow the prescribed procedures in order to stop his “unintentionally accelerating” Prius.

We’ve already revealed the findings of the two investigations, but now Toyota has released a video in which it shows the testing procedures to which the runaway Prius was subjected. In it, the company reveals that the results aren’t accurate to what Sikes stated after the incident, and that all of the fail safe systems were working fine.

To see how a second generation Toyota Prius was tested and how it can be stopped during an unintended acceleration event, hit the jump.

Fernando Alonso gets new Maserati GranCabrio

Formula 1 drivers aren’t exactly the poorest guys on Earth, so they usually afford to buy quite a lot of cars for off the track use. But for those who are racing for a manufacturer-owned team, the company car is given to them for free.

This is what happened to two-time F1 champ Fernando Alonso, who won the first race of the 2010 season in Bahrain for Ferrari. After his switch from Renault to the Italian team, the Spanish driver was left without a car, as the Megane RS was returned.

Seeing as how the guy barely had enough money for something decent, Ferrari decided to hook him up with a model from the Fiat family. No, it’s not a Panda, but a Maserati GranCabrio convertible. It seems that Alonso had enough of driving fast but not so comfortable sportscars, and decided that a comfy GranCabrio would be perfect.

The model, powered by a 4.7-liter V8, capable of 440 HP, has been decked out with some special features, and will be showcased by Alonso everywhere he goes. While he will be enjoying the open top fun between F1 races, we’ll be here wondering what it’s like to live such a life.

Dacia Duster crossover coming to South America with Renault badge

Dacia Duster crossover coming to South America with Renault badge

The new Dacia Duster crossover promises to take Europe by storm with its low-cost nature yet resilient off-road talents. It aims to further improve the recipe that made the Logan sedan and Sandero hatchback so popular in Western Europe.

But while Renault will be keeping the Duster with its subsidiary’s badge in Europe, it will be launching the model under its own badge in South America. It seems that the Renault factory in Colombia is being heavily modified to support the manufacturing of the Duster, and will create models for all the markets in which the French company is present, including Mexico.

While this isn’t a confirmation, it seems that Renault wants the Duster to be as close as possible to the USA, so that word of mouth marketing can start. The company hasn’t even confirmed plans to re-enter the North American market, but it is bound to happen, sooner or later.

Until then, South Americans will soon be able to enjoy this low cost crossover. In case you want to see what the Dacia/Renault Duster is capable, just check out these two videos.

Citroen presents special DS3 Yves Saint Laurent edition

Citroen is eager to promote its new DS3 hatchback as a premium model, with a rich interior and an attractive design. That’s why it has recently partnered with famous French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, and revealed this special edition of the compact model.

The YSL DS3 isn’t just for show, as Citroen used it to shuttle guests to a special event, which commemorated the long history of the fashion house. Decked out in special paint, and sporting the glorious YSL logo on the roof, you would think that the true luxury is on the inside.

Citroen presents special DS3 Yves Saint Laurent edition

Sadly, that isn’t the case, as Citroen took the easy route and made no other modifications to the fashionable DS3. Perhaps they were confident that the quality of the interior couldn’t be upgaded, or perhaps they were tired after releasing the stunning GQ by Citroen concept.

Don’t go expecting this model in dealerships, as this was just a favor made for YSL by Citroen (or perhaps the other way around?).
