| Next Pagani C9 supercar to have 700 HP 6.0-liter V12, will cost $1.2 million Posted: 22 Jan 2010 01:49 AM PST  For all of our readers which are sad to see Pagani end the production of the superb Zonda, new details have arrived about its replacement, currently codenamed C9, straight from Horacio Pagani. According to him, the C9 will be powered by a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-liter V12, capable of 700 HP and around 1000 Nm of torque. These figures are quite similar to the Zonda and will definitely please performance fans. He also revealed that the C9 is “a completely new car from concept, weight distribution, materials and dynamics.” The new Pagani supercar will make use of all the latest technologies, and implement things like a carbon-titanium chassis, special Pirelli tires and performance Bosch electronics. It will also be able to support the US crash tests and comply with the California emission laws. Last but not least, according to Pagani, the new model will cost around $1.2 million or €900,000, so get your check books ready. | Toyota issues recall for 2.3 million vehicles because of sticking accelerator pedals Posted: 22 Jan 2010 01:27 AM PST  Damn, Toyota just can’t catch a break these days (more like months). After issuing a huge recall for 4.2 million vehicles due to floor mats reportedly jamming the accelerator pedal in a fully open state, and then saying that it will implement brake override systems in order to stop cars which aren’t responding to the normal brakes (but not because of the incidents!), the company now issued another recall, for “just” 2.3 million vehicles. The cause of another big recall such as this? Unintended acceleration is at the center, but not due to any floor mats, as Toyota says the gas pedal mechanism might have become worn, and won’t return to its regular position as fast as it needs to, and, in some cases (a few, says the Japanese company), might remain in a partially open position. The cars involved in the recall are: 2009-2010 RAV4, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2007-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia. The many owners of such vehicles should contact your Toyota dealer and schedule a service check-up as soon as possible, especially if you noticed any lack of response from the accelerator pedal. | Special edition Corvette Z06 to be auctioned off for Haiti relief Posted: 22 Jan 2010 12:58 AM PST  Seeing as how the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction will be taking place this weekend in Scottsdale, AZ, and how the world is still trying to help Haiti escape the disaster into which the multiple earthquakes have plunged it in, GM announced that a special edition 2008 Chevrolet Corvette will be auctioned at the event, with the money earned, plus another $100,000 from GM, will be donated to the Red Cross. "This is a very good example of the compassion GM employees have," said Ed Welburn, Vice President of GM Design. He will present the vehicle and start the bidding process at the event. This specific car is the last out of a limited edition of 427 cars built for the North American market and is the only 2008 Z06 model to boast Crystal Red Metallic Tint Coat. It is powered by a 7.0-liter V8 engine, which develops 505 HP and features spider-design chrome wheels, Z06 plates, Stinger-style stripe on the hood and fascia, as well as chromed exterior badges and painted Z06 spoiler plus body color door handles. On the inside, the car has a Dark Titanium leather-wrapped interior, with a special Crystal Red center trim plate. Like all of the 427 limited edition models, it is signed and numbered in the center console by Will Cooksey, the Corvette plant manager, and also boasts 427 hood badges, engine cover emblems and seat and floor mat embroidery. | Kia teases Ray plug-in hybrid concept before its debut in Chicago Posted: 22 Jan 2010 12:32 AM PST  Kia is quite confident in the upcoming Chicago Auto Show, and has begun teasing one of its new concepts, the Ray plug-in hybrid, by releasing the sketch above. No other details were given, but quite a few voices are saying that it will be based on the recently revealed Hyundai Blue-Will concept, which was shown at Detroit. From the above sketch it also seems that photo voltaic solar cells will be present on the roof, and might be used to recharge the battery or power the A/C inside. | Ford Taurus debuts in White Collar: Chasing the Shadow online game Posted: 22 Jan 2010 12:16 AM PST  Online games are becoming increasingly popular, and with their new-found users, their possibility of promoting various things has also increased. As such, Ford has partnered up with the USA Network TV channel, in order to promote both the new Taurus car and the White Collar TV drama, through a new web game called White Collar: Chasing the Shadow. In this game, players take the role of an FBI agent, which is investigating a criminal portrayed on the show. His main weapon in fighting him? Why the Ford Taurus of course, which helps him with its new features like SYNC, SecuriCode, Collision Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control (see what they did there?). Even if it is a blatant cross-promotion scheme, for fans of the show and of the Taurus who have nothing better to do, it’s great. Check it out at this link. | Audi booth at Detroit Auto Show was so hot, fire erupted and people were evacuated Posted: 21 Jan 2010 11:57 PM PST  Even though many people weren’t all that excited about this year’s Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS), with the big American carmakers losing a lot of their fans and support, there were still quite a few visitors at the show. But yesterday, according to unconfirmed reports, the Audi display, boasting things like the 2011 A8 or the new version of the e-Tron electric concept, got so hot, a fire erupted. Bear in mind there was nothing serious, according to the official NAIAS Twitter feed, but thick smoke engulfed the whole Cobo center, where the show was taking place. People were immediately evacuated, and the firemen, which had one of their stations right across the street, promptly intervened. | King Juan Carlos I of Spain gets special Audi RS6 Posted: 21 Jan 2010 11:43 PM PST  We can frankly say that it’s good to be a king. Besides visiting other countries, reigning over a whole nation and other royalty-related stuff, you can also get some of the greatest cars, as highlighted by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, which received a special Audi RS6, from the German company. Details about the transaction are sketchy, but you can see Audi really cranked up the premium feel up a few notches, offering a black paint job with a blacked-out logo and a set of dark graphite five-spoke wheels. Besides that, front-mounted emergency lights, a special license plate and, of course, flag mounts were also included.  This new RS6 will allow the King to travel around Spain quite fast, as it is powered by a 5.0-liter TFSI engine, which outputs 572 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque. Couple that with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and the quattro all-wheel drive system, and the mid-size limousine can get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. | Video: Stars sign Chrysler 300C which will be auctioned for Haiti relief efforts Posted: 21 Jan 2010 11:27 PM PST  Even though Chrysler isn’t in the best of spots, it hasn’t forgotten that things can get worse, and through its brand manager, Olivier Francois, decided to help out the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti in a very special way, thanks to its luxury limousine, the 300C. Francois took the special model, in its Eco trim line, onto the red carpet of the 2010 Golden Globes where around 300 celebrities autographed the car. The model, which also sports “300 Haiti” decals, is now set to be auctioned off, and all of the proceeds will be going to the American Red Cross. | Acura TSX reportedly getting hybrid drivetrain soon Posted: 21 Jan 2010 11:14 PM PST  Honda is pushing hybrid drivetrains with models like the Insight and the recently revealed CR-Z coupe, but up until now has been reluctant to reveal any such options for its luxury division, Acura. Things are about to change though, as the company has revealed through the voice of its CEO, Takanobu Ito, that a hybrid powertrain will soon grace one of the Acura models, but was reluctant to say which car specifically will gain an electric motor. Luckily, the Automotive News team got a tip from an Acura dealer, which confirms the TSX sedan to be the first in line when the hybrid drivetrains will be given by parent company Honda. After that specific implementation, you can expect other models to also be on the receiving end of the new technology, so that premium-oriented customers will have a wide range of choices.
