Videos: Hyundai parodies Top Gear in ix35/Tucson ads Posted: 16 Jun 2010 01:08 AM PDT Top Gear is by far one of the most loved car shows *Clarkson voice* … in the world. That’s why Hyundai decided to use Top Gear’s popularity and released two new ads for its ix35 (or Tucson, in the US) crossover, which are airing in South Africa during the World Cup. The ads showcase a new car show, Top Deer, hosted by a wildebeest, a hamster and a turtle. The show’s tame racing driver isn’t the Stig, but a deer called The Stag. In the two ads, the new Hyundai ix35 is put through its paces, on the track against the Stag and at the hooves of the wildebeest. Hit the jump to check out the hilarious videos. BMW starts teasing new M3 version Posted: 16 Jun 2010 12:53 AM PDT BMW is definitely fond of teasing its announcements, as it has just started a new campaign, hinting at some sort of new version, based on the M3 performance model. As you can see above and below, the two shots tease a new variant of the M3, sporting 19-inch wheels, possibly from the recent Competition Package, plus other features. The interior photo hints at some sort of automatic transmission. The current M3 is already available in sedan, coupe and convertible edition, plus the high performance GTS was already revealed some time ago. The car is set to be revealed at the end of the week, when BMW will make the official announcement of this new model. Until then, let the speculation (M3 wagon?!) continue. Video: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta officially revealed Posted: 16 Jun 2010 12:35 AM PDT After yesterday’s photo leak, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta has been officially revealed by the German company. As you can see, the new Jetta sports an increased size, thanks to an all-new platform, 3.5 inches longer than its predecessor, but also a new design, heavily influenced by the New Compact Coupe we saw a few months ago. Gone is the half Golf half Passat Jetta which still managed to sell quite a number of units and now we have a much more attractive model, with increased size and upgraded systems that will replace the Passat in the US market. Engine-wise, not a lot has changed, as US customers will still get the 2.5-liter inline-four and the 2.0-liter TDI units, present in the current Jetta, but also a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot, available in the Jetta GLI version. Manual and automatic transmissions are available, including the DSG seven-speed gearbox, optional for the turbocharged gasoline and the TDI. A price has yet to be confirmed for the new Jetta, but voices are pegging it around $16,000. You can check out the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta photo gallery below. A video presentation of the new sedan is located after the jump. Photo Gallery: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Gran Turismo 5 confirmed for November 2 release, supports 3D, trailer included Posted: 15 Jun 2010 11:57 PM PDT It’s been an extremely long time coming, but yesterday, at its E3 press conference, Sony has officially revealed a release date for its “real racing simulator” Gran Turismo 5. The game, which has been a long time in development with the Polyphony Digital studio, will be arriving exclusively for the PlayStation 3 platform on November 2. So, you might be wondering, what’s so great about this game? Well it will have over 950+ cars, a plethora of real and virtual tracks, plus the ability to compete in a variety of events, from supercar racing to rallying or even Nascar. Add in the fact that it will support 3D output, meaning that if you have a 3D-ready TV, you’re going to need special glasses to see that extra dimension, and GT5 is looking mighty impressive. Besides the release date, Sony has also detailed the special Collector’s Edition of Gran Turismo 5. Retailing for $99, it will include not only the GT5 game, but also a 1:43 scale diecast model of Nissan GT-R SpecV with GT livery, a 300-page in-depth car guide, detailing history and racing techniques, a custom-etched GT5 keychain plus a voucher for five exclusive downloadable cars. All this will be available in custom packaging alongside a special serial number, as the Collector’s Edition will be limited to a certain number of units. Gran Turismo 5, both in regular and limited Collector’s Edition format, is now available for pre-order at special game stores. Until November, hit the jump to check out a new trailer of the game, complete with footage of a virtual Stig driving around the Top Gear course and of Red Bull’s F1 driver Sebastian Vettel. 2011 BMW X3 gets more camouflaged photos Posted: 15 Jun 2010 11:37 PM PDT It seems BMW is bent on making us remember that the 2011 BMW X3 will be premiering at the Paris Motor Show in September. As such, after revealing a few exterior details and a set of camouflaged photos of the next generation crossover, the German company has once again revealed a set of images with the disguised model. This time, the camouflage is even lighter, allowing us to see almost the complete shape of the future X3. The looks are a bit more aggressive this time around, reflecting the increased size of the crossover. While we’re still pretty far away from the Paris show, we’re pretty sure BMW will continue to release more camouflaged pics of the new X3, as a friendly reminder. After all of the photos with the 2011 BMW X3, what do you think of the German crossover? Share your thoughts below. Source: BMWBlog.ro Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Volkswagen CC Wagon version rumored Posted: 15 Jun 2010 11:15 PM PDT The Volkswagen CC (or Passat CC, as Europeans know it), is proving to be a pretty big sales hit for the German company. Through its combination of more upmarket accessories and a price without the added premium of brand recognition, like Audi or BMW, the CC is definitely a surprise hit. That’s why Volkswagen executives are rumored to be considering a wagon version of the CC, in order to exploit a whole other niche. Currently, it seems that the next generation Volkswagen Passat won’t be sold in the US. As such, VW leaders are considering a wagon versions of the CC, in order to fill the void left by the Passat’s departure. While we’re not really holding our breath for this rumor, a utility-inclined five-door “coupe” does sound pretty tempting. What do you think? Would a wagon CC make any sense for the US market? Share your thoughts below. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ferrari 599 Roadster already spied Posted: 15 Jun 2010 08:10 AM PDT Last week we heard straight from Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo that the supercar manufacturer is working on a convertible edition based on the 599 GTB Fiorano model. This 599 Roadster, as it might be called, is now once again in the media spotlight, as the first spy shot has hit the Internet. While at first glance, the model above may seem like an ordinary 599, there’s more than meets the eye. Those with a sharp eye can observe the black tape used to keep the roof on the A pillar of the supercar. The rear C pillars are also a bit shorter than on a regular 599, while extra tape is also used to keep the doors shut. According to Montezemolo, the 599 Roadster will be making its debut at the Pebble Beach Concourse in August. Until then, this lone spy shot will keep you company. Video: Mini still wants to race Porsche, ups the ante with new prizes Posted: 15 Jun 2010 07:43 AM PDT Last week, Mini USA launched a very public challenge to Porsche USA, in order to race the Cooper S against a 911 sportscar, at the Road Atlanta circuit. At the time, Mini boss Jim McDowell challenged Porsche boss Detlev Von Platen with things like special T-Shirts and media attention. Sadly, Porsche has declined the challenge, inviting Mini to compete against it in true race events, and not in special competitions. Now, Mini is back with a new video. In it, McDowell ups the ante for Porsche by offering things like Justin Bieber concert tickets, a lifetime membership in the Salami of the Month Club, or even a (slightly used) gym. The whole video is hilarious, so hit the jump and check it out. Hopefully someone at Porsche will also realize how fun this challenge might be and will take part in it. Next gen 2011 Volkswagen Jetta leaked before official debut Posted: 15 Jun 2010 06:54 AM PDT The current Volkswagen Jetta is nothing more than a sedan version of the Golf V. But the odd combination of a Golf front end and Passat rear hasn’t stopped it from becoming quite a best seller for the German company. As such, the next generation, previewed by the New Compact Coupe concept, will have its own distinct personality, in order to attract more people. Now, it seems that the aforementioned model has already been leaked onto the Internet, as three photos of the next generation, 2011 Volkswagen Jetta sedan have appeared. The guys at AutoExpress have published the photos, which showcase a pretty attractive model. According to the magazine, the European version will get a choice of five engines, three using gasoline and two using diesel. On the gasoline side, a 104 HP 1.2-liter TSI, a 121 HP 1.4-liter TSI and a 200 HP 2.0-liter TSI will be available. The choice of oil burners is between a 104 HP 1.6-liter TDI and a 138 HP 2.0-liter TDI. No word on what the US-spec Jetta will bear under its bonnet, but the official announcement from VW isn’t that far away, so stay tuned for more Jetta news.
