Videos: Subaru reveals awesome ads for 2011 Impreza WRX STI Posted: 21 Jul 2010 02:26 AM PDT Subaru’s ad campaigns can always be a hit or miss with some people. Sure, the dog commercials for the Outback were a bit quirky, but not a lot of people were intrigued by them. Now, in order to promote the new 2011 Impreza WRX STI, Subaru definitely struck gold with the ad campaign. This time you won’t see any dogs, just people, including Subaru’s own rally driver and former BMX rider Dave Mirra. He was tasked with taking regular people in a ride with the new WRX STI, and showcase what the car is capable of. As you can imagine, the regular guys and girls were quite shocked by the talents of both the car and Mirra. Check out the five videos after the jump! Posted: 21 Jul 2010 01:51 AM PDT Mercedes-Benz’s compact offerings, the A and B Classes, haven’t exactly proven to be best sellers. As such, for the next generation models, the German company is preparing something a bit more special. After hearing that the B Class will evolve and tackle BMW’s 1 Series, as well as see new versions, fresh rumors are now being revealed about the next generation A Class. According The Detroit Bureau, the new models in the range are set to borrow cues from two very well-received concepts from the last few years: the Concept Fascination and the F800 Style. As you may remember, the Concept Fascination shooting break showcar was revealed in Paris a couple of years ago, and previewed the current E Class. The F800 Style is a bit newer, appearing onto the scene at the Detroit Auto Show this year. As we saw at the beginning of the week, it has previewed the future 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS. Even if the next generation A Class will borrow just styling cues, we’re pretty excited that they will come from such attractive concepts. What do you think? Share your thoughts in a comment below. Most fights in cars are over directions, survey says Posted: 21 Jul 2010 01:26 AM PDT A new survey conducted in the UK by car accessories retailer Halfords showcases some interesting trends in terms of arguments or fights in a car. According to the data taken from 2,200 participants, 70% of them admitted to arguing in a car at least once a month. What’s more worryingly is that 17 percent admitted to fighting at least once a week. According to the data from the survey, one third of all these fights occur over directions. It seems that navigation is one of the most sensitive subjects, especially in the case of married couples. The blame for the fighting is, as you can imagine, pinned on the other person. 65% of people said that their partner started bickering about their navigation skills, while 85% of passengers got angry because the driver won’t stop and ask for directions (Hello, Captain Obvious!). The biggest take away from this survey is that people should definitely buy a satellite navigation system and keep the fighting to a minimum, as it distracts the driver, and can have serious consequences. Also, according to a third of respondents, the post-fight period when the car is drenched in a tense silence is the worst part of arguing in a vehicle. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park unveils its attractions Posted: 21 Jul 2010 01:02 AM PDT If there’s one place we’d like to visit at the end of this year, it’s Abu Dhabi. No, we don’t want to burn our eyes with questionably tuned cars or anything like that. Instead, we want to visit the upcoming Ferrari World theme park. After seeing some of its roller coaster rides, like the Fiorano GT challenge, which pits together two F430 trains against one another, or the Formula Rossa roller coaster, all of the other attractions have been unveiled. Thrill seekers will be most pleased of the G-Force one, which is basically a tower ride designed to emulate the G forces one would feel in a Ferrari Enzo hypercar. The seats are even styled after the actual ones in the expensive performance model. A log-flume ride will allow visitors to check out the internals of a Ferrari V12 engine, while kids will race against one another in customizer Ferrari karts. Still, hardcore fans should definitely visit the Galleria Ferrari, where the history of the Italian carmaker is showcased through a plethora of classic models. According to the company, this is the largest collection of cars outside of Maranello. The Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park is set to open its doors at the end of the year, so you’d better start making reservations as soon as possible. Abarth preparing hardcore Fiat 500 Coupe version Posted: 21 Jul 2010 12:48 AM PDT A new rumor is coming fresh from Italy, concerning Fiat’s performance division, Abarth. It seems that even though the brand has confirmed that it will manufacture a dedicated sportscar in two years time, it will also present a more hardcore coupe (speedster) version of the existing Fiat 500 city car. The model is expected to hit before the dedicated sportscar, and, according to Autocar, will take cues from the 1959 Zagato Abarth 750 T model. As such, expect an elongated body, with a more aggressive design. The British magazine also suggests that it will arrive in two versions, a hardtop and a convertible. Basically the Abarth 500 Coupe will act like a halo car for the rest of the 500 range. Powerful engines are already rumored, like the 178 HP 1.4-liter T-Jet or the 178 HP 1.4-liter MultiAir, currently used by the Abarth Punto Evo. Even though we don’t know a lot about this new version, knowing what Abarth is capable of, we’re extremely interested to find out more in the following months. Volkswagen confirms electric vehicles in 2013, new hybrids until then Posted: 21 Jul 2010 12:35 AM PDT Volkswagen is currently one of the largest carmakers in the world, overtaking most of its rivals, and inching closer to its goal of becoming the biggest automaker in the world by 2018. In order to do so, Volkswagen chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn has revealed that a solid strategy in terms of hybrids and electric vehicles is needed. As such, the German executive revealed during a conference at the company’s Electronics Research Lab in Palo Alto, California, that new, green models are coming from Volkswagen. He confirmed that by 2013, we will see two new electric vehicles: the e-Golf, based on the popular hatchback, and the E-Up! city car, based on the older concept. These models, according to Winterkorn, will be priced and marketed as ‘electric cars for everyone’, drawing a parallel to the company’s reputation as the people’s carmaker. Until then the green market won’t be neglected, as the hybrid version of the 2011 Touareg SUV is already on sale. Joining it later this year and at the beginning of 2011 will be hybrid versions of the new Jetta and of the next generation Passat. Winterkorn finished his statements by saying that VW will work on improving the range of its electric cars and the reliability, as customers won’t be satisfied with a low range, even if the vehicle is an electric one. Fiat 500 Blackjack special edition revealed Posted: 21 Jul 2010 12:05 AM PDT What does the Fiat 500 range need even more than those performance Abarth versions? Why yet another special edition. This time, Fiat is following the matte black trend, and has unveiled the new 500 Blackjack edition. Besides the dark paint scheme, you will find glossy accents on the door handles and mirror housings, as well as a set of 16-inch alloy wheels complete with red brake calipers. For the inside, the Italian carmaker fitted leather upholstery as well as aluminum inserts and trim. There are plenty of choices in terms of engines though, as four different units can be ordered for the 500 Blackjack. First off, the gasoline camp enjoys the new 84 HP 900cc TwinAir unit, a 69 HP 1.2-liter and a 100 HP 1.4-liter. Diesel fans will be able to order the 95 HP 1.3-liter MultiJet II engine. Only ’select’ European markets will receive the Fiat 500 Blackjack special edition, with prices around €18,000 ($23,250). Source: Fiat via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
